Welcome to another installment of "Making My Own". Okay, how much do you hate spending 50-75 cents on a packet of taco seasoning and it only has like 3 tablespoons of mix in it? And how many times have you thought you had taco seasoning and after dumping all your spice packets on the floor realize that you are out?THIS is why I started making my own taco seasoning! And guess what? I had all the ingredients at home already, which meant those times that I was 'out', I really wasn't!I adapted this recipe from 5dollardinners.com because I thought it was a little Chili Powder heavy. I have since used it in 3-4 recipes calling for taco seasoning and I feel GREAT knowing it cost me less and taste even a little better than the stuff you find in the store, plus I'm sure it's healthier. I read somewhere that the packets have silica in them.... no bueno!
3/4 T chili powder1 T cumin1 T onion powder1 T garlic powder1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
And now that I've started making a lot of my own spices and mixes I've been recycling empty bottles. Recognize what kind of container this used to be?
If you have anything you've ever thought about making on your own, comment and I'll try it out for you!
We're linking up this week, so come party with us!
