Thank you to Macy's Heart of Haiti for providing product to inspire this post about the stars in my life.

Today I have a digital layout that not only displays some of my favorite photos, but also helps bring awareness of a fantastic cause.  If you're a regular reader, you know how much I love my family-- I feature them often here.  They truly are the stars in my life.  Without them, I'd live in darkness.  They light up my life just as stars do the nighttime sky.  I made a layout showcasing my "stars".  Here's what I came up with this week:

Another famous star is the one in the Macy's logo.  I'm proud to share with you the Macy's Heart of Haiti campaign:

The devastating earthquake in January 2010 has made it very difficult for Haitians to make a living.  Many lost everything.  Raw materials have been wiped out, conditions are often unsanitary and insecure, and there is little aid for economic relief.

Macy's has stepped in to offer what they refer to as a "trade, not aid" program, which is a way of creating sustainable work and much needed financial opportunities for Haitians.  In their program "Heart of Haiti", they have teamed up with over 780 local artisans to date, affecting more than 6,200 lives!  Artists have the opportunity to make a living, feed their families, and pay their children's school fees.

The artists have created a collection for Macy's that includes more than 40 home decor items including quilts, metalwork, jewelry and paintings all made almost entirely from recycled and sustainable items such as old cement bags, cardboard, oil drums and local gommier wood.  This is repurposing at its finest, crafters!

I love this fish scale frame:

this soapstone dove:

and these rustic servingware pieces.

You can contribute directly to the Haitian community by purchasing these items the next time you are at Macy's.  Those of you that experienced Hurricane Sandy, or even saw its effects on the news, can appreciate how desperately the people in Haiti need our help.

I was given this star ornament, handmade by a Haitian artist as part of this campaign.  It is rustic and beautifully made, and I am proud to hang it in my home this holiday season.

So, if you're looking for something special to do with the stars in your life, take them to Macy's and purchase one of the items from the Heart of Haiti line.  You can also shop online.  Artisans receive HALF the wholesale price of each item sold.

Which item is your favorite?
